Hillsdale College Women Commissioners Host Fifth Annual Charger Derby
The event raised around $80,000 for Hillsdale College Scholarships.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Women Commissioners held their annual Charger Derby on Nov. 9 to raise money for college scholarships. Two hundred forty-four people attended the event, raising around $80,000.
“The Charger Derby is a fun way to bring the community together and support Hillsdale College,” said Sue Zbozen-McAlpine, Charger Derby co-chair. “Since we first put it on five years ago, this event alone has raised more than $375,000 to fund scholarships for students who otherwise couldn’t attend or complete their education.”

The event featured simulated horse racing, an auction, food, and a cash bar. Auction items included trips, College swag, and artwork by Sam Knecht and Hillsdale alumni. People could participate from anywhere by obtaining a bidder number online.
All proceeds from the event went to the Women Commissioners Scholarship Fund. Thanks to the efforts of the Women Commissioners, 44 students received scholarships this academic year, totaling more than $267,000.
