Hillsdale College established the Legacy Society to recognize those supporters who have generously designated the College as a beneficiary of their estate. These friends of the College value Hillsdale’s dedication to learning, character, faith, and freedom and have made specific arrangements to support those purposes through an estate gift. The generosity of Legacy Society members ensures that Hillsdale’s mission will continue for generations to come.
Privileges of Membership
Legacy Society members create a ripple effect of compassion through their gifts that benefits generations to come. Your legacy can make a difference in the lives of countless students and, ultimately, in the future of our nation.
In gratitude, Hillsdale College offers Legacy Society members the following:
- Welcome packet that includes a personalized name tag along with a special thank-you gift.
- Special invitations to Hillsdale College events in your area.
- News and updates on the College.
Additionally, the names of Legacy Society members are recognized on a display at the Dow Hotel and Conference Center on Hillsdale’s campus.
Membership
Revocable Gifts
- Beneficiary designation
- Bequests in a revocable will or trust
- Real Estate or other properties
Gifts of any amount are eligible when accompanied by supporting documentation and a signed Membership Form.
Documentation Required
Please provide proof that Hillsdale College has been named as a beneficiary through one of the following:
- Will or trust pages naming Hillsdale College as beneficiary
- Beneficiary designation page
- Policy beneficiary page
- Transfer-on-death designation page
Membership is subject to documentation requirements.
Member Gift Usage
- Designated Gifts: you may choose to support specific academic programs or departments, outreach, capital projects and improvements, undergraduate or graduate school scholarships, athletic programs or departments, or the general endowment.
- General Gifts: undesignated gifts allow the College to direct your gift toward the educational and operational programs that have the greatest need at that time.
- Student Scholarships: you can help protect Hillsdale College from the government regulations that come attached to taxpayer-funded federal and state student grants and loans, which are not accepted here. Legacy Society members may designate their gift to the general scholarship fund or the many other existing scholarship funds. They may also choose to establish a named endowed or annually donated scholarship with their own criteria.
- Named Endowments: gifts can be designated by an individual or couple to a specific endowment fund that they have named; the annual income may be used to support the College’s general operations, or a specific academic or outreach program.
