Hillsdale College Hosts Annual Day of Thanks
Students wrote more than 4,000 thank-you cards to people who have supported them throughout their lives and educations.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s Student Activities Board, 1844 Society, and Alumni Office hosted the College’s annual Day of Thanks on Nov. 21. Students came to the Grewcock Student Union throughout the day to write thank-you cards to donors, family members, professors, friends, and others who have supported them throughout their lives and in their college careers.
“Day of Thanks gives students a simple but meaningful way to show their gratitude for all the ways they have been blessed,” said Colleen McGinness, executive director of alumni relations. “Hillsdale has given each of us so much, and we are grateful to everyone — from donors and professors to family and friends — who contribute to our students’ growth and success.”

Ninety-nine percent of undergraduate students at Hillsdale College receive some form of financial aid, with the average financial aid package coming out to more than $25,000 per year. The funds for scholarships can come from donors, some of whom have never stepped foot on Hillsdale’s campus but support the type of education the college promotes.
Students expressed their gratitude on festive cards designed by their peers. In total, students wrote more than 4,000 cards.
“Day of Thanks was one of my favorite events as a student. We should take the time to reflect on all that has been provided for us, every gift that has been given,” said Ingrid Dornbirer, director of student activities. “I was able to understand and appreciate the privilege of my education more fully because of this day. Hillsdale College is a blessing to so many because of the ways the school and its students have been blessed.”
