Hillsdale College Students Named to USA Shooting National and Junior National Teams
Sophomore Ava Downs and junior Jordan Sapp qualified for open national teams at the USA Shooting Selection Match in Florida.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College shotgun team members Ava Downs (’27) and Jordan Sapp (’26) have been named to the USA Shooting 2025 open national teams for trap and skeet, respectively. Taylor Dale (’28) and Davis Hay (’26) were named to junior national teams. Athletes qualified in the USA Shooting Selection Match in Florida.

“I am proud of Ava, Jordan, and all of our team members for their hard work,” said shotgun coach Jordan Hintz. “Our shooting sports program is growing, and it is exciting to have two of our athletes qualify for open national teams.”
Eight members of the shotgun team competed in the match, which took place from Jan. 22 through Feb. 2 at the Palm Beach County Shooting Sports Complex in Florida. Five members of the team competed in trap during the first week of the competition and three competed in skeet during the second week.
Downs placed first in the collegiate division for trap and qualified for the junior national team and the open national team. Dale also qualified for the junior national team, and Sophia Bultema (’26) placed second in the paralympic division.
Sapp placed first in the collegiate division for skeet and qualified for the open national team. Hay placed third in the junior division and second in the collegiate division and qualified for the junior national team.

About the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center
The Halter Center is a state-of-the-art shooting facility located five miles from the Hillsdale College campus. Opened in 2008, the Center aims to introduce individuals to shooting sports and encourage interest across all levels of experience. Hillsdale College has been the home of the USA Shooting National Team since 2019 and has hosted USA Shooting Junior Olympic Trap and Skeet development camps and championships. The Center boasts 113 range acres, four international skeet fields, a 23-station sporting clays course, five international bunkers, a small arms range, an action shooting range, a five-stand range, an international archery range, nine American Trap fields, and an AcuSport lodge and grill.
