Hillsdale College Students Win 12 Awards in National Classics Translation Contest
Hillsdale students won or tied for first place in five out of six categories.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Eight Hillsdale College students took home prizes in the Maurine Dallas Watkins Translation Contests sponsored by Eta Sigma Phi, the national classics honorary. Hillsdale students won or tied for first place in five of the six categories.

Hillsdale College students took home 12 out of the 34 prizes awarded:
Advanced Greek:
- First place (tie): Jonathan Rolfe ’25
- First place (tie): Brian Curtin ’26
Intermediate Greek:
- First place (tie): Jacob Schulz ’25
- Second place: Robert Keeton III ’27
Koine Greek:
- First Place: Jonathan Rolfe ’25
- Second Place (tie): Brian Curtin ’26
- Honorable Mention (tie): Jonah Murray ’25
Advanced Latin:
- First Place: Jonathan Rolfe ’25
- Second Place: Zachary Chen ’27
- Third Place (tie): Matthew Tully ’25
Intermediate Latin:
- Honorable Mention: Nathan Reynolds ’26
Latin Prose Composition:
- First Place: Jonathan Rolfe ’25
Advisors of Eta Sigma Phi chapters administered the tests for their campuses, and winners were announced shortly after the Eta Sigma Phi annual convention. All winners received certificates of recognition, with monetary prizes awarded for first, second, and third place.
