Hillsdale College Announces January Fine Arts Events
Upcoming events include an art exhibit, a guest cello recital, and the annual Student Concerto/Aria Competition.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College will hold a variety of fine arts events in January, which are open to members of our local community. Upcoming events include an art exhibit, a guest cello recital, and the annual Student Concerto/Aria Competition.
All events are free and open to the public, but some require ticket reservations. To reserve tickets, contact the box office at [email protected] or 517-607-2848.

Friday, Jan. 23: ‘Bob Kuhn: Drawing on Instinct’ Exhibit Opens
5 p.m. | Daughtry Art Gallery (Fine Arts Building)
“Drawing on Instinct” presents a generous sampling of Kuhn’s rarely seen sketches alongside the vibrant paintings for which he is best known. The traveling exhibit was mounted by curator Adam Duncan Harris, Ph.D., and the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming, in 2012. An opening reception will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, in the Daughtrey Art Gallery. The exhibit will be on display in the gallery until Sunday, March 22. For gallery hours, click here.
Sunday, Jan. 25: 2026 Annual Student Concerto/Aria Competition
Noon to 5 p.m. | McNamara Rehearsal Hall and Conrad Recital Hall (Howard Music Hall)
Advanced instrumental and vocal students studying in the Hillsdale College music program will compete to perform with the Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra. Audience members are welcome. Students prepare repertoire with their individual studio teachers and then perform for a panel of guest judges made up of professional musicians and faculty from peer institutions.
Sunday, Jan. 25: Choral Evensong Service
6 p.m. | Christ Chapel
Join the Hillsdale College Choral Scholars for a celebration of Choral Evensong. This centuries-old service features Scripture, choral anthems, and prayers.
Wednesday, Jan. 28: Guest Artist Masterclass With Danielle Belen
3-5 p.m. | Conrad Recital Hall (Howard Music Hall)
Danielle Belen, associate professor of violin at The University of Michigan, will present a masterclass to Hillsdale College upper string students. All are invited to watch and learn.
Thursday, Jan. 29: Steuart Pincombe Solo Cello Recital
8 p.m. | Christ Chapel
American cellist Steuart Pincombe quickly made a name for himself as an exquisite interpreter of early and contemporary music. Steuart is regularly featured as a soloist and chamber musician in leading venues across North America and Europe, and his playing has garnered wide acclaim from the public and critics alike.
