Hillsdale College Students Present Science Research During Parents Weekend
Students presented posters explaining their research in various scientific disciplines.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted its annual Undergraduate Science Research Symposium on March 7 during Parents Weekend. Students presented posters explaining their research projects in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, and physics.
“Our students have the opportunity to work directly with faculty to conduct original, hands-on research,” said Matthew Young, dean of the natural sciences and professor of chemistry. “This event is an exciting way for them to share their research with others, and it gives parents and visitors a glimpse of what our students accomplish.”

This year’s symposium featured 32 posters. Faculty, staff, students, family members, and the community were invited to come and learn about the science research projects done by Hillsdale students.
Many students conduct their research through Hillsdale’s LAUREATES program, an endowed program to support original summer research projects in the sciences. Students undertake high-level research projects under the direction of a faculty mentor. They typically conduct six weeks of full-time research in the early part of the summer, which they integrate into their senior theses the following academic year. Some students also give off-campus presentations of their research at regional or national conferences.
