Hillsdale College Nimrod Education Center Video Wins First-Place Award
The video won a first-place award from the Michigan Outdoor Writers Association.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s visual media team won a first-place award from the Michigan Outdoor Writers Association for a video highlighting Hillsdale’s Nimrod Education Center.
“It was an honor to accept this award on behalf of the Nimrod Center, Hillsdale, and the marketing team,” said Al Stewart, director of the Nimrod Education Center. “This was a very competitive category and we’re fortunate to have received the first-place award.”

The video “Hunting and Fishing at Hillsdale,” highlights the Nimrod Center’s Drummond Family Silver fellowship. The competitive one-year fellowship offers a scholarship to students with a significant interest in hunting and fishing. Fellows assist with on-campus Nimrod Center events, take classes related to the Nimrod Center’s mission, and participate in educational hunting and fishing excursions with friends of the College.
The video features 2024-2025 Drummond fellows Bánk Bodor ’25, Jessica Strasser ’25, Joshua Corbin ’25, and Madeline Corbin ’27.
“I never expected to be able to hunt and fish during college, but Hillsdale understands that these traditions are at the heart of the American spirit, and I’m proud to carry that legacy forward, not just for my time here at college, but for the rest of my life,” Bodor said.

The video won first place for the Mort Neff Award for broadcast media as part of the 2026 MOWA Excellence in Craft Awards. In another category, a story about Stewart also won first place.
“As chairman of MOWA and Chairman of the Michigan Outdoor Hall of Fame, it is my honor as a colleague and friend to congratulate Al on his recent Neff award,” said MOWA Chairman Bob Vogel. “Al and Mort Neff, though a generation apart, have a few things in common. Both are great conservationists and outdoor communicators. In both cases their teaching of outdoor conservation will long be remembered. They are both members of the Michigan Outdoor Hall of Fame and inspirations to all outdoor communicators. Well done, Al.”

About the Nimrod Education Center
Hillsdale College’s Nimrod Education Center was established in 2021 through a gift from Alan Taylor, founder and president of the Nimrod Society. The Center educates Hillsdale College students and the general public about the societal benefits of hunting and fishing. The Center’s activities include academic courses on wildlife management, educational programs and conferences, and scholarships for Hillsdale College students with experience in hunting and fishing. The Center takes its name from the biblical account of Nimrod, the founder of several ancient cities who was known as “a mighty hunter before the Lord” (Genesis 10:8-12).
