Requirements
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline—such as Philosophy, Philosophy of Education, History, Literature, or Classics—at the time of appointment and should possess a firm understanding of the classical liberal arts (trivium and quadrivium) and classical K-12 education. They should have the desire to teach a variety of courses that will include Logic and Rhetoric in Classical Education (EDU 393) and may include Classical Quadrivium (EDU 301), Philosophy of Education (EDU 360) and other offerings in Classical Education. Candidates should also provide evidence of a willingness and ability to assist in managing the growing responsibilities of the Education Department, including preparing Hillsdale College students for teaching positions in classical K-12 schools and offering continuing education for K-12 teachers and administrators.

Candidates should send a letter of application that includes a personal statement addressing the applicant’s teaching philosophy and qualifications for the position. They should also send a curriculum vitae, a response to the College’s Mission Statement, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, a short summary of teaching evaluations, and at least three letters of recommendation.
