Hillsdale College’s American Chemical Society Chapter Recognized Nationally
Society given highest-ranking “Outstanding Award” for its activities in the 2017-18 academic year
Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale College congratulates its student chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) for its recognition as an “outstanding” chapter by the ACS’s Committee for Education.
“I am delighted to see the chapter’s work recognized nationally,” said Christopher VanOrman, dean of the natural sciences and William and Bernice Grewcock chair in chemistry at Hillsdale College. “I have long believed that we need to reestablish a dynamic, exciting vision of chemistry, and our students are doing just that. Their enthusiasm and energy are truly remarkable.”
More than 400 chapters across the country were considered by the committee, and Hillsdale was one of 69 chapters that received an “Outstanding Award,” the highest possible ranking. The chapter will be recognized at the ACS national meeting, online at the student chapter awards website, and in inChemistry magazine’s spring 2019 issue.
Hillsdale College’s ACS chapter is open to all undergraduates and aims to increase the appreciation of and participation in chemistry both at the College and in the community.
