Biography
I’ve always loved libraries. One of my earliest memories is straightening the books on the shelves at our local public library when I was about five. I spent every summer trying to compile a longer list of “books read” than the year before, and spent every afternoon I could browsing the stacks. Once I’d finished college and begun to explore what I might do with my liberal arts music major, I finally discovered that librarianship combined all the things I loved into one amazing vocation.
Learning requires access to information representing all points of view of a subject. Developing and managing a collection to support that learning requires an open mind and a willingness to explore literature of all types. Buying and cataloging books here for 19 years turned out to be a dream job for this liberally educated nerd. Pursuing study in library and information science at the doctoral level gave me the chance to explore what I’d loved doing as a practitioner at the theoretical level, and has equipped me to study it further and to write about it. I hope it’s also given me the vision to help the library meet the growing needs of our amazing students and faculty.
