Sitting around a table, playing a card game, a group of friends hurl accusations at one another, claiming someone is the culprit. Maybe this doesn’t sound very relaxing. But for some students, it is a favorite way to escape the relentless load of assignments that need to be finished.

It’s getting late on a weeknight. Commotion and laughter are coming from Mauck’s spacious lobby. If you investigate, you might find an intense game of Clue ensuing among friends. Why aren’t they stressing about midterms? The answer is a conglomerate word: “Mauckoodfeldt.”

Spotlight on Dr. Dwight Lindley, Associate Professor of English

Dr. Lindley summarized his philosophy of literature in this way: “The way that I tend to teach and think about literature is as a doorway to everywhere. It gives you an imaginative path into the things we care about that we have a hard time living with and thinking about. It is going to take us deeper into life, or else it is not worth doing.”

In a lecture for Physics 100, you might find yourself watching video clips of Neil Armstrong land on the moon, or laughing over Double Rainbow Guy, or observing your professor blowtorch a strip of metal. Hillsdale introduced this new physics class into its core science curriculum last year.

Studying Obesity and Inflammation

While eggs serve as the cornerstone of the typical Hillsdale student’s Sunday brunch, they also happened to be the subject of Andrea Lee’s summer research. Her research studied ethanol’s effect on the embryo serum from chicken eggs in order to understand the importance of a good diet on a cellular level.
