Biography
Libraries are a testament to the labors and fruits of civilization. These institutions have safeguarded and offered up intellectual workmanship for millennia, allowing many to learn from the thoughts and writings of strangers whom they would never have come to know otherwise. The systems and principles enabling this great and timeless conversation are no less important or involved, and they require dedicated attention to maintain over the years.
Questions of arrangement and access—both physical and intellectual—captured my interest as a student worker at Hillsdale College’s own Mossey Library, even as it grew from a childhood love of the library space itself. Serving as a steward of knowledge in a library setting became my goal as a result, and my professional life has aimed at this point ever since. The organization and sharing of information in such a context is like building a puzzle—ensuring that each piece of the whole has a place even as they are shared among a community of curious students and learned teachers. This is a rewarding endeavor that has inspired the minds and imaginations of countless visitors for generations, and the kind of education that they can offer has endured the test of ages. There is no better place to be than at a library.
