Each year, the Cravats and Bluestockings club hosts Regency Ball, a classic night of dancing and socializing modeled after Victorian-era England.

A “Classy” Study Spot

With Greek and Latin dictionaries, owl mascots for the classics honorary, and assorted classic texts, the classics library is a hidden study oasis for students. Dr. Joseph Garnjobst, chairman and professor of classics, even leaves a bowl of fruit and chocolate for students to feast upon as they study.

Elizebeth Smith Friedman: Hillsdale Alumna and American Hero

Students in the Documentary and Filmmaking class, taught by Lecturer in Journalism Buddy Moorehouse, were given the reins to create their own documentary. In six weeks, students researched, wrote, produced, and screened their own documentary film on Elizebeth Smith Friedman, a 1915 Hillsdale alumna, and codebreaking American hero.

Although running helped bring Karen Taylor Donmoyer, ’86, to Hillsdale College four decades ago, it was the overall experience that kept her there. Rachel Mohning Doty, ’97, loves calling Hillsdale home because its generations past and present work together to create a strong community. Rachel is accustomed to the close-knit, small-town life. It’s a life she wouldn’t trade; she learned great things, met her husband, and raised her family here in Hillsdale. For Rachel, Hillsdale is home.

Living the Island Life

Ben and Keren Casciani Ten Haaf, ’04, ’04, are living out their personal version of Fantasy Island. The couple owns and operates Lizzie Lu’s Island Retreat, a vacation home rental business with nearly 30 vacation home rental properties on Anna Maria Island, on Florida’s Gulf Coast near Bradenton, Florida.

The Chargers will conduct the 43rd annual Lift-A-Thon at 7 p.m. on March 9, 2023, in the JAM Weight Room in the Roche Sports Complex. Former All-American offensive lineman Mike Broome, ’82, called the Lift-A-Thon “the culmination of a significant shift in the history of Charger football.”
