“We lose freedom when states become weak.” Daniel and Jan Mensonides Himebaugh, ’04, ’06, firmly believe that working in politics at the state level offers incredible opportunities to make a meaningful impact. The couple says State governments need Hillsdale graduates who believe in freedom.

Slayton Arboretum Turns 100!

Slayton Arboretum, now celebrating its 100th year, continues to be a peaceful retreat as a lovely site to “indulge in the silly talk of youth.” Hillsdale College is forever grateful to Dr. Bertram Barber and the many individuals, both from the College and community, who have labored to keep the Arb beautiful and functional over the past 100 years.

Laying the Cornerstone

Fireworks, backyard barbecues, and parades characterize modern-day American Independence Day celebrations. But one particular Independence Day at Hillsdale College attracted thousands of people from miles around as they commemorated the laying of the cornerstone for the first building on the new campus rising from the pasture up the hill.
