Hillsdale from an Alumni Perspective

Written by Doug Goodnough

I’ve been doing this Alumni Blog thing now for a while. In fact, this is my 51st post.

When I started my role at the College, one of my priorities was to talk about Hillsdale from an alumni perspective. Whether it was people, places, or things, being able to provide alumni a glimpse into the College has been one of the most rewarding areas of my job.

The overall goal of the Alumni Office is to build and strengthen the relationship between the College and the alumni. In some small way, I hope this blog has helped that effort.

During my four years on staff, many of you have reached out to me about the College, either in support or to even express a concern or two. And I very much appreciate that. We want to hear your thoughts and appreciate your feedback and certainly hope for your continued support.

On our side, we have really stepped up our outreach, and the College has made a concerted effort to make our alumni a priority. In fact, we now have a thriving Alumni National Tour, nine regional alumni chapters around the country, class ambassadors, and events like White & Blue Weekend and Homecoming that rival anything happening around the country.

The White & Blue e-newsletter brings news and content for alumni monthly and allows us to highlight the outcomes of a Hillsdale College education: our alumni.

And we are far from finished. We are still refining our online alumni directory and hope to have a redesigned website for alumni later this year.

One recent development was the “Alumni Conversation with the President” that was conducted March 30 via Zoom. Hillsdale President Dr. Larry Arnn “sat down” with some of our alumni during an hour-long online chat and answered alumni questions on a variety of subjects (if you missed it, we hope to do this again). We are so grateful Dr. Arnn took the time to dialogue with alumni.

We have an Alumni Europe Tour coming up in June. There are more than 80 alumni and friends signed up to join the Alumni Team and Doc Conner for a World War II journey to England and France. What a trip that will be!

Look for more information soon regarding how the College and the Alumni Office will help celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday.
