Hillsdale College Alumna Vivian Turnbull ’25 Awarded Fellowship from Phi Kappa Phi
Turnbull is pursuing a Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College alumna Vivian Turnbull ’25 has been awarded a fellowship of $8,500 from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Turnbull graduated with a major in politics and is pursuing a Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School.
“Vivian was an outstanding student who embodied Hillsdale’s commitment to character and excellence,” said Don Westblade, assistant professor of religion and president of Hillsdale’s chapter of Phi Kappa Phi. “It is a joy to see her work recognized with this fellowship, and I am excited to see what she accomplishes in law school and beyond.”

Turnbull was one of 48 Phi Kappa Phi members who received fellowships for graduate or professional study this year.
Turnbull graduated summa cum laude from Hillsdale in May with a major in politics and a minor in rhetoric and media. She earned departmental honors for her senior thesis, “Conditional Party Government in the Twenty-First Century.” She is currently in her first semester at Notre Dame Law School and intends to pursue a career in public service.
At Hillsdale, Turnbull was named a George Washington Fellow and spent a semester studying in Washington, D.C., as part of the Washington-Hillsdale Internship Program. While there, she interned for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. She also completed a summer internship with the U.S. House of Representatives and spent a summer working in London.
On campus, Turnbull belonged to the Student Federation and the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was a member of the debate team and placed in the top 16 nationally at the 2022 International Public Debate Association championship. She also volunteered as a public-school tutor and with the Journal Buddies program.
Phi Kappa Phi is America’s oldest and most selective multidisciplinary collegiate honor society, with chapters on more than 300 campuses. It is open by invitation to undergraduate juniors and seniors, graduate students, faculty, professional staff, and alumni.
