Hillsdale College Announces August and September Fine Arts Events
Upcoming events include an art exhibit, a guest organ recital, and a performance by Ballet Hartford.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College will hold a variety of fine arts events in August and September, which are open to members of our local community. Upcoming events include an art exhibit, a guest organ recital, and a performance by Ballet Hartford.
All events are free and open to the public, but some require ticket reservations. To reserve tickets, contact the box office at [email protected] or 517-607-2848.

Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025: Faculty Recital
7:30 p.m. | Conrad Recital Hall (Howard Music Building)
Ji Hyun Kim, violin and cello; Jaclyn Burke, violin; Darren Chan, viola; and David Peshlakai, cello, will perform three compelling works by Franz Schubert, highlighting his genius in both song and chamber music: “Du bist die Ruh” (arranged for string quartet), Quartettsatz, and his masterful Cello Quintet in C Major.
Saturday, Aug. 30: Faculty Recital
2 p.m. | Christ Chapel
Kátia Sherman, recorders; Lara Turner, viola da gamba; and Daniel Tacke, harpsichord, will perform a recital featuring solo and chamber works from the French baroque repertoire.
Friday, Sept. 5: Albin Veselka Art Exhibit Opens
6 p.m. | Daughtrey Art Gallery (Fine Arts Building)
In 2006, Albin received his BFA from Brigham Young University Idaho. He credits the faculty of the BYUI art department for giving him “the tools all representational artists must have to open the door to communicating in the visual arts.” Early in his career, he received direction that helped him break into the gallery scene in college. Since then, Albin has continued developing his art and has received recognition and honors that have aided his progress, most recently his induction into the Cowboy Artists of America.
The exhibit will be on display in the Daughtrey Art Gallery from Friday, Sept. 5, through Sunday, Oct. 12. For gallery hours, click here. An opening reception will be held in the gallery on Friday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 6: Faculty Recital
7:30 p.m. | McNamara Rehearsal Hall (Howard Music Building)
Dr. Daniel Kuehler, piano, will present a recital featuring late piano masterpieces of Johannes Brahms.
Tuesday, Sept. 16: Bálint Karosi Guest Organ Recital
7:30 p.m. | Christ Chapel
Commended as “a most impressive musical interpreter” by the Boston Musical Intelligencer, Hungary native Bálint Karosi is a solo organ recitalist with regular performances across Europe, North America, and east Asia. Winner of the 2008 International Bach Competition in Leipzig, he earned a reputation for his creative programming and expressive command of a wide range of repertoire. Karosi is director of music at First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Friday, Sept. 19: Musical Forum Lecture by Dr. Sheryl Lott
12:30-2:30 p.m. | Practice Room and Conrad Recital Hall (Howard Music Building)
As part of the Musical Forum Lecture Series, Dr. Sheryl Lott will give a lecture in the practice room on problem-solving, using the latest cognitive science. A rapid-fire masterclass will follow in Conrad Recital Hall featuring five or six students with a few measures of music each.
Saturday, Sept. 20: Ballet Hartford
7:30 p.m. | Markel Auditorium (Fine Arts Building)
Ballet Hartford, a leading ballet company located in the heart of Connecticut, pursues excellence in ballet by presenting performances that are rooted in truth, infused with beauty, and propelled by the common good. They will present Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos and excerpts from “The Sleeping Beauty,” along with mixed repertory. Directed by Claire Kretzschmar, former soloist with the New York City Ballet. Ticket reservations are required.
Saturday, Sept. 27: Annual Homecoming Choir Reunion Concert
Noon | Christ Chapel
Following a morning of rehearsals and fellowship, music alumni join with the College Choir and Chamber Choir for a performance of sacred and secular choral compositions.
