Hillsdale College Announces November Fine Arts Events

Upcoming events include the Tower Players’ production of ‘The Book of Will’ and a performance by the Harry James Orchestra.

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College is pleased to announce another exciting month of plays, concerts, and other fine arts events open to members of our local community.

Friday, November 7: Musical Forum with Dr. Daniel Kuehler    
Noon to 1 p.m. | Conrad Recital Hall (Howard Music Building)
Dr. Daniel Kuehler will give a lecture on how musicians memorize: chunking, chaining, meaning, context, rest, and multi-sensory reinforcement.

November 7-8: Opera Workshop Presents ‘Melody in Motion!’
7:30 p.m. Friday, November 7 | 7:30 p.m. Saturday, November 8 | McNamara Rehearsal Hall (Howard Music Building)
Opera Workshop presents “Melody in Motion!” Experience the thrill of romance and the drama of heartbreak as Hillsdale students showcase scenes from the works of Donizetti, Mozart, Bizet and Strauss. The performers will bring to life the timeless themes of operatic storytelling.

Tower Players Production: ‘The Book of Will’ by Lauren Gunderson
7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, through Saturday, November 15 | 2 p.m. Sunday, November 16 | Markel Auditorium (Fine Arts Building)
After the death of William Shakespeare, actors Henry Condell and John Heminges are determined to compile the First Folio and preserve the words that shaped their lives. They’ll just have to borrow, beg, and band together to get it done. Amidst the noise and color of Elizabethan London, Lauren Gunderson’s comedy-drama tells an unforgettable true story of love, loss, and laughter. Rated PG for mild language. Directed by Christopher Matsos. No tickets required.

Sunday, November 16: Faculty Recital

A unique program of both our full Symphony Orchestra and select Chamber Orchestra members, including works by Debussy and Stravinsky. James A Holleman, music director.

Sunday, November 23: College Choir and Chamber Choir

Annual fall concert of the College Choir and Chamber Choir, both separately and in combination, presenting a varied program including works by Eric Whitacre, Ivo Antognini, Dan Forrest, Randol Bass, Arvo Pärt, and others. James A Holleman, music director.
