Hillsdale College Announces October Fine Arts Events
Upcoming events include a piano duet, a sculpture gallery, and the Tower Players production of Silent Sky.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College is pleased to announce another exciting month of plays, concerts, galleries, and other fine arts events that are open to you, members of our local community.

Tower Players Production: Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson
Wednesday, October 2 – Saturday, October 5, 7:30 p.m. | Sunday, October 6, 2:00 p.m. | Markel Auditorium
Based on the life and work of astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, Silent Sky tells the inspiring story of her groundbreaking work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s. As Henrietta attempts to map the stars, she must also take measure of her life on Earth. Written by Lauren Gunderson, one of America’s most produced living playwrights. Directed by Tory Matsos.
Saturday, October 5: Piano Duet Recital – Dr. Elizabeth Crecca and Dr. Daniel Kuehler
7:00 p.m. | Conrad Recital Hall
New four-hand arrangements of Gershwin’s beloved songs and the Michigan premiere of a sonata by David Temperley complement a timeless classic: Schubert’s haunting Fantasie in F minor.
Sunday, October 6: Choral Evensong Chapel Service

Join the Hillsdale College Chapel Choir for a celebration of Choral Evensong. This centuries-old service features scripture, choral anthems, and prayers.

Professional Artists Series: Anthony Frudakis Sculpture
Friday, October 11 – Wednesday, November 20 | Daughtrey Art Gallery
A nationally recognized sculptor, Frudakis chooses to work in a modern, representational, yet classical mode, drawing inspiration from his Greek heritage and the genius of the Golden Age of Greek sculpting. Bronze figures, both human and animal, are his milieu. His works grace both private and public collections. An opening reception will be held on Friday, October 11, at 5:00 p.m.
Friday, October 11: Homecoming Weekend Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra

The opening concert of the orchestra season, presenting favorite individual movements and pieces from the past as we pay tribute to our orchestra alumni. Directed by James A. Holleman.
Saturday, October 12: Rob Roy Jazz Combo Featuring Vocalist Dr. Ellie Martin

Opera Workshop

Experience the drama of romance and heartbreak as Hillsdale students showcase scenes from the operas of celebrated composers such as Donizetti, Mozart, Strauss, and others. Through these curated excerpts, the performers will bring to life the timeless themes of operatic storytelling.
