Hillsdale College Blake Center for Faith and Freedom Announces Spring 2025 Event Schedule
Speakers will discuss C.S. Lewis, Martin Luther, Thomas Aquinas, and the failures of socialism.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s Blake Center for Faith and Freedom in Somers, Connecticut, is set to host numerous events this year focusing on Christianity, its relationship to Western and American thought, and questions of faith and reason. Upcoming events include:
- April 11: “Mere Christianity” with Michael Ward, distinguished fellow of Hillsdale College
- April 25: “The Importance of Martin Luther” with Jonathan Mumme, associate professor of theology at Hillsdale College
- June 6: “The Importance of Thomas Aquinas” with Lee Cole, chairman and associate professor of philosophy, Hillsdale College
- June 26: “Marxism, Socialism, and Communism” with Ivan Pongracic, professor of economics and William E. Hibbs/Ludwig Von Mises Chair of Economics at Hillsdale College
“Educational events at the Blake Center seek to foster learning about the relationship between faith and freedom,” said Alan Crippen, executive director and chaplain of the Blake Center. “Exploring these questions is central to our mission here, and we hope that many will join us.”

About the Blake Center for Faith and Freedom
Philanthropists Prestley and Helen Blake donated the buildings and acreage of their estate in Somers, Connecticut, to Hillsdale College in 2019. The Blake Center for Faith and Freedom is a religious institution that includes, an exterior replica of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s renowned neo-classical home in Virginia. The College utilizes the property to host events that further its mission, focusing on the foundational principles of faith and freedom. To this end, most events held at the Blake Center will have clear religious themes, focusing on topics relating to Christianity, man’s relationship to God, and faith generally.
