Hillsdale College Freshman Presents Cancer Research at the NIH
Samiksha Yadav was the only undergraduate presenter.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College freshman Samiksha Yadav presented her research on hereditary breast cancers during a workshop hosted by the National Institutes of Health on April 14 in Bethesda, Maryland. Yadav was the only undergraduate student to present research.
“The meeting went really well, and I also got to meet professors from Yale, Harvard, and NCI,” Yadav said. “I plan on studying this topic further and implementing a new approach in the near future.”

The one-day workshop, “RNA as Cancer Drivers, Biomarkers and Therapeutics,” was organized by the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. It brought together experts from academia, industry, and government to share research on different types of RNA and their effects on varying cancers.
Among the 35 researchers selected to present posters at the workshop, Yadav was the only undergraduate student.
While attending high school in India, Yadav dual-enrolled in college classes, did part-time research on cancer genetics, and became the youngest researcher to have her work published at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.
Last semester Yadav had a research abstract accepted by Brown University’s eighth annual Student Neurosurgery & Neurology Research Conference, and this month she will present research at Stanford University’s 13th Annual Neuroscience Forum — both events geared for students in medical school.
