Hillsdale College Halter Center Celebrates Veterans Day, Lets Veterans Shoot for Free
The Halter Center continued a Hillsdale tradition of honoring those who have served.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center allowed veterans and active military servicemembers to shoot for free on Nov. 16 in honor of Veterans Day.
“This is the sixth time Hillsdale College has done this, and it is a tradition we hope to continue every year,” said Matt Little, range manager at the Halter Center. “It is a joy for us to serve our veterans, and this is the least we can do to honor those who have given so much for America.”

The day began at 9 a.m. and ran through 4 p.m. Veterans enjoyed American Trap, American Skeet, International Trap, 5-Stand, Olympic Bunker, and Sporting Clays. The AcuSport Grille was open for lunch and early dinner.
Hillsdale College also supports veterans through the Freedom Scholarship, which provides private funding for veterans to earn a bachelor’s degree, allowing them to use G.I. Bill benefits for graduate school or for their children’s education.
“Hillsdale College and the Freedom Scholarship have provided a landing place as I transition from military service,” said Army veteran Joseph Grohs. “The Hillsdale Action Shooting Team and the educational discipline of Hillsdale College have offered a haven where I can adjust for the next chapter of life.”
