Hillsdale College Halter Center Hosts USA Shooting Shotgun National Championships

Hillsdale students earned eight medals and 10 team placements.

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center hosted the 2026 USA Shooting Shotgun National Championships. The events, held May 16-20 for skeet and May 23-27 for trap, selected members for the USA Shooting open national teams, open development teams, and junior teams.

“It’s exciting to welcome some of the country’s top shotgun athletes — including several of our own students — to compete at our world-class facility,” said Rich Péwé, chief administrative officer at Hillsdale College. “This is Hillsdale’s sixth year hosting this competition here at the Halter Center, and we look forward to many more.”

The competitions, which followed International Shooting Sport Federation rules, were structured across several days of qualification rounds and finals. Athletes faced a total of 250 match targets in the qualification rounds, and the top competitors then advanced to ISSF elimination-style finals to determine final placements and team selections.

Six Hillsdale students took home eight medals at the competition:

  • Roman Barrett ’29: bronze in junior men’s trap
  • Madeline Corbin ’27: silver in open women’s skeet, bronze in junior women’s skeet, and bronze in collegiate skeet
  • Taylor Dale ’28: gold in junior women’s trap
  • Kyle Fleck ’26: gold in collegiate skeet
  • Davis Hay ’26: silver in collegiate skeet
  • Marin McKinney ’28: silver in open women’s trap

Corbin, Dale, Ava Downs ’28, Zach Hinze ’29, and Kinsey Duzan ’30 earned team placements.

About the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center
The Halter Center is a state-of-the-art shooting facility located five miles from the Hillsdale College campus. The Center boasts 125 range acres, four international skeet fields, a 25-station sporting clays course, eight American trap fields, five international bunkers, an action shooting range, an enclosed and climate-controlled five-stand range, an international archery range, and a 62,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor rifle and pistol building. The Center is also home to the AcuSport Lodge and Grille and six cottages to accommodate overnight lodging.

Opened in 2008, the Center aims to introduce individuals to shooting sports and encourage interest across all levels of experience. The home of the USA Shooting National Team since 2019, the Halter Center hosts USA Shooting skeet and trap nationals and Junior Olympic development camps and championships. The Center is also the home of Hillsdale’s national championship-winning shotgun and action shooting teams. The Center is open to the public, offering annual range memberships as well as classes, camps, and other programming focused on the shooting sports and the principles of the Constitution.
