Hillsdale College Hosts Fall Parents Weekend
Parents met with professors, conducted mock interviews, and attended various campus events.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College welcomed parents to campus for Parents Weekend Oct. 24-26. The College hosts Parents Weekend each semester as an occasion for parents to visit their students, engage with the campus community, and learn more about life and education at Hillsdale.
“Parents Weekend is a cherished tradition at Hillsdale, and we look forward to welcoming our Hillsdale parents to campus each semester,” said Maree Socha, director of parent relations. “It is a special opportunity for them to connect with their students, each other, and our campus community.”

The highlight of the weekend is parent-faculty conferences during which parents are invited to meet with professors to learn about their students’ courses and performance. Hillsdale’s independence from federal funding makes possible these conversations, which are forbidden in federally funded institutions unless the student consents.
“We are grateful for the special role that parents play in their students’ growth and success,” Socha said. “While parent-faculty conferences are rare in higher education, they enable meaningful partnerships between parents and professors that help our students to thrive.”
Over the weekend, parents had the opportunity to attend various events on campus, including volleyball and football games, a Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra Concert, and an art exhibit featuring paintings by Emeritus Professor of Art Sam Knecht. Hillsdale College Career Services also invited parents to conduct mock interviews with students interested in their career fields.
