Hillsdale College Hosts Fall Student Art Exhibit
Several student artists were recognized during an award ceremony.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College opened its fall student art exhibit on Dec. 3. The exhibit, which runs through Dec. 13, features all levels of student works from fall semester studio classes. The exhibit is open to the public, and admission is free.
“From beginning to advanced, our students worked hard to sharpen their skills and create beautiful work this semester,” said Julio Suarez, chairman and associate professor of art. “They are excited to share the fruit of their efforts with campus and the community.”
“We hope that members of the community visit the exhibit and enjoy our students’ work.”
The exhibit features the work of students from beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses in design, drawing, oil painting, photography, and sculpture. Art and art history students voted on the best works in each category. Awards for first, second, and third place were announced during an awards ceremony on Dec. 3:
- Drawing: Caleb Ostella (’27), Ellie Severino (’28), Gail Cool (’26)
- Life Drawing Award: Caleb Ostella (’27)
- Painting: Eleanor Vaughn (’25), Cecilia Cummins (’25), Cecillia Cummins (’25)
- Sculpture: Carolyn Spangler (’26), Joy Hanes (’25), Claire Lashaway (’26)
- Photography: Marina Weber (’25), Kyle Johns (’25), Abi Palubinskas (’26)
- Design: Mary Hannah Runge (’27), Nora Shipp (’27), Lucia Wilson (’25)
- Master Copy: Rachel Moeller (’25), Claire Lashaway (’26), Lucia Wilson (’25)
“This event allows students to recognize the best work of their peers, and the faculty agreed that the winning pieces were outstanding,” Suarez said. “We hope that members of the community visit the exhibit and enjoy our students’ work.”
The exhibit is displayed at the Daughtrey Gallery in the Hillsdale College Fine Arts Building. It is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday 1-11 p.m. Admission is free.
