Hillsdale College Hosts Piano Duet Recital
Elizabeth Crecca and Daniel Kuehler’s performance featured works by Gershwin, Schubert, and David Temperley.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted a piano duet recital on Saturday featuring Elizabeth Crecca, assistant professor of music at Truman State University, and Daniel Kuehler, artist/teacher of collaborative piano at Hillsdale College.
“Each time Dr. Crecca and I perform this program, we unearth new gems in the score,” Kuehler said. “This process of discovery comes from the unique demands of duet playing, where we must become one instrument, finding ‘the sound’ through unified imagination and precise choreography. In duet repertoire, the piano’s orchestral palette expands considerably, and this offers us endless exploration of new textures and colors.”

The performance featured Franz Schubert’s “Fantasie in F minor,” new four-hand arrangements of songs by George Gershwin, and the Michigan premiere of David Temperley’s “Sonata for Piano Duet.”
“In a teaching-focused environment like Hillsdale, it’s important to remember that music is essentially a discipline of live performance and listening. This is how it has flourished as an essential aspect of our culture,” said Daniel Tacke, Music Department chair. “First-rate performances like this one are a wonderful chance for the campus and community to come into contact with the real thing.”
