Hillsdale College Launches Master of Classical Education Leadership Hybrid Program
The program will prepare students for school leadership while allowing them to work full time.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s Diana Davis Spencer Graduate School of Classical Education will launch a Master of Classical Education Leadership program in the summer of 2025. The new program will prepare teachers for positions of leadership in schools while allowing them to continue their work in the classroom.
“The demand for classical K-12 schools is booming, but there is a shortage of people to found and lead them,” said Daniel Coupland, the graduate school’s dean. “We designed this program to help elevate teachers into positions of leadership by giving them the knowledge and skills they need, all while continuing to develop their experience and skills in the classroom.”

The program pairs instruction in classical education with training and mentorship. Students finish the program in three years, completing an online course each fall and spring semester, a three-day online apprenticeship class each winter, and a one-week class in person each summer. The program includes philosophical, historical, literary, curricular, and pedagogical courses, as well as courses for school leadership development.
This is the Graduate School of Classical Education’s second master’s program. The first, which offers a Master of Arts in Classical Education, was founded in 2022 and takes place entirely on Hillsdale’s campus.

About the Graduate School of Classical Education
The Diana Davis Spencer Graduate School of Education was founded in 2022 with the goal of educating educators and other working professionals on classical education. The core classes are centered around the core texts of Western and American thought. The program is offered to students through a two-year residential program or a three-year hybrid program.
