Hillsdale College President’s Office Hosts Lecture on Population Decline
Vlatko Gjorchev of North Macedonia spoke on ‘Demography and Population Decline: Trends and Consequences.’
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted Vlatko Gjorchev, the national coordinator for demography, youth, and human resources in the government of North Macedonia, for a lecture on April 9. Gjorchev spoke on “Demography and Population Decline: Trends and Consequences.”
“It was an honor to bring Vlatko Gjorchev back to campus,” said Chief Staff Officer Kyle Murnen. “He understands firsthand the importance of population trends, and I believe his insights were valuable to those who attended.”

Gjorchev discussed trends of population decline in various European countries and the United States and why they should matter to those countries’ governments. He also discussed ways that some countries, including North Macedonia, have addressed demographic problems like declining fertility rates and what other options may be available to reverse these trends.
Gjorchev is the national coordinator for demography, youth and human resources in the government of North Macedonia. He previously served as a member of the Parliament of Macedonia from 2006-2020.
