Hillsdale College Students Hold 9/11 Never Forget Ceremony
HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College chapter of Young Americans for Freedom created a memorial on September 11 to honor those who died in the 9/11 attacks. The memorial is part of YAF’s nationwide 9/11: Never Forget Project.
“This memorial is a way to honor the lives lost on 9/11, but it’s also a reminder to us not to take our freedom as Americans for granted,” said Victoria Rossmiller, chairman of the Hillsdale YAF chapter. “Freedom doesn’t come by accident. We have to fight for it and protect it.”

Hillsdale YAF members invited students, faculty, and staff to contribute to the memorial project by placing 2,977 small American flags in the ground around the Hillsdale College Civil War monument between Lane Hall and Kendall Hall. The flags memorialize the 2,977 lives lost on 9/11.
“This is the first year that all current Hillsdale students — except those who are older for their grades — were born after 9/11,” said Mark Moyar, William P. Harris Chair of Military History and YAF’s faculty adviser. “This memorial will help them understand the magnitude of those attacks and keep alive the memory of those who died. It is also inspiring for those who lived through that day to see that those too young to remember still want to honor the American families who suffered as a result of the 9/11 attacks.”
Young Americans for Freedom is a project of Young America’s Foundation. YAF chapter members advocate the ideas of individual freedom, a strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values through educational activities, conferences, and campus leadership.
