Hillsdale College Students Intern and Study in Washington, D.C. as Part of Washington-Hillsdale Internship Program
WHIP students are interning at the State Department, the Federalist Society, the Heritage Foundation, and more.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Nineteen Hillsdale College students are in the nation’s capital for the fall semester as a part of the College’s Washington-Hillsdale Internship Program (WHIP). Through the program, students participate in full-time internships while taking evening classes on Hillsdale’s D.C. campus.
“WHIP challenges students to balance professional and academic life in one of the most exciting cities in America,” said Mary Wheeler, Hillsdale in D.C.’s undergraduate program coordinator. “This not only prepares them for life after graduation but allows them to see how the things they study at Hillsdale apply in the real world. WHIP completes a Hillsdale education.”

WHIP students are interning at Cornerstone Government Affairs; Family Research Council; The Heritage Foundation; The Claremont Institute Center for the American Way of Life; the Department of State; the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation; The Daily Signal; Hudson Institute; the Federalist Society; the Conservative Partnership Institute; the Federal Communications Commission; and the offices of Rep. Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma, Rep. Bill Huizenga of Michigan, Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona, and Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas.
Juniors and seniors of all majors can participate in the Washington-Hillsdale Internship Program.
While on WHIP, students take two or three evening classes taught by both Hillsdale College professors and distinguished fellows who live and work in Washington, D.C. This gives them the opportunity to study politics, journalism, economics, English, and law with prominent working professionals, including journalist Mollie Hemingway.
