Hillsdale College Students Win Prizes from Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society
Hillsdale Students took home four of the nine prizes awarded at the TriBeta District Convention.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Four Hillsdale College students took home prizes at the 2025 Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society District Convention this past semester.
Hillsdale sent eight students to the convention, hosted by Thomas More University, where they presented their research from the past year. Of the nine prizes awarded, Hillsdale students took home four.
“They do outstanding work in the sciences even as undergraduates, and it is rewarding to see their efforts recognized.”
“Hillsdale College teaches students to be thoughtful researchers and clear communicators,” said Andrew Russell, associate professor of biology and faculty adviser to Hillsdale’s TriBeta chapter. “They do outstanding work in the sciences even as undergraduates, and it is rewarding to see their efforts recognized.”
In the organismal, ecology, and environmental biology category, Hannah Arends ’25 won first place for her oral presentation titled “The Role of Temperature on Incubation Period, Development, and Metabolic Rate of Fundulopanchax Gardneri Clauseni ‘Akure’ (Nothobranchiidae) Embryos.” Christina Peterson ’25 won second for her oral presentation titled “Evaluating EPTs: Applying the River Continuum Concept in an Agricultural Watershed.”
In the molecular, cellular, microbiology category, Kay Suganuma ’25 won second place for her oral presentation titled “A T11 Spinal Cord Injury Decreases Sympathetic Signaling to Bone,” and Sarah Hou ’25 won third for her oral presentation titled “Imaging of Escherichia Coli and Neural Tissue with X10 Expansion Microscopy.”
Hillsdale’s chapter also took home the award for most participants from a member school.
