Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra Performs ‘Concertos & Pops’ and ‘Wolves & Ducks & Dragons’
The three spring concert performances each featured unique repertoire.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra gave three spring concert performances, on March 27, 28, and 29, each with a unique set of repertoire. Students, faculty, staff, and community members attended.
“All of these concerts were fun, lively, and entertaining for all ages,” said James A Holleman, music director of choirs and orchestras. “Our students rose to the challenge of mastering two sets of repertoire, and their performance was excellent.”

On Friday, the orchestra performed a special concert for an invited audience of young people and their parents. The performance featured Sergei Prokofiev’s classic “Peter and the Wolf” and Andrew Maxfield’s companion piece “What About the Duck?”.
Saturday’s performance, “Concertos & Pops!” featured selected winners from Hillsdale’s 2026 Student Concerto/Aria Competition: Ellia He ’26 (violin), Ashlyn Linton ’26 (piano), and Samuel Jarzab ’26 (clarinet).
Sunday’s performance, “Wolves & Ducks & Dragons,” featured “Peter and the Wolf” and “What About the Duck?”
Both Saturday and Sunday’s performances included film scores from “Up,” “Ratatouille,” and “How to Train Your Dragon.”
More than a quarter of Hillsdale’s student body participates in one of the College’s music ensembles, which include the College Choir, Chamber Choir, Symphony Orchestra, and Jazz Big Band.
