Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra Performs Spring Concert

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra performed its third concert of the season in Christ Chapel on Feb. 22. The concert featured pianist Hannah Wong ’26, one of the winners of the 2025 Student Concerto/Aria Competition.
“Hannah was outstanding, and I was very pleased with the maturity of the orchestra students in their accompaniment of her.”
The orchestra performed Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides Overture” and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 in F Major, Op. 93.
“It was a good experience for us to perform music of the late classical era,” said James Holleman, music director of choirs and orchestras. “Focusing on the style and subtle musical details of Beethoven and Mendelssohn grows our understanding of the evolution of orchestral compositions through the years and makes us a more informed ensemble.”
Wong performed the third movement of Edvard Grieg’s Concerto in A Minor for Piano and Orchestra, op. 16.
“Hannah was outstanding, and I was very pleased with the maturity of the orchestra students in their accompaniment of her,” Holleman said. “I hope the audience enjoyed the concert and will return in April for our performances of Handel’s ‘Messiah.’”
