Hillsdale College Tower Players Perform ‘Big Fish’
The play, which opened on Wednesday, explores the importance of family and the power of storytelling.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Tower Players hosted their opening performance of the musical “Big Fish” on Wednesday. The play, based on the novel by Daniel Wallace, tells the story of a son’s attempt to discover the truth behind his father’s tall tales.
“‘Big Fish’ is a heartwarming exploration of family, identity, and the power of storytelling,” said Instructor in Theatre Tory Matsos. “The cast and musicians did a fantastic job bringing this story to the stage, and it was an honor to direct the play.”

“Big Fish” tells the story of Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman whose larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him, and his son, Will, who is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales.
The production features music performed by a pit orchestra of students from the music department directed by James Holleman. Senior music major Samuel Jarzab, who has studied conducting with Holleman for the past three years, will conduct the Thursday and Sunday performances.

“Big Fish” is the third Tower Players production this season. Additional performances will be Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March. 8, at 2 p.m. in Markel Auditorium. Admission is free, but ticket reservations are required.
