Hillsdale College Tower Players Perform ‘Silent Sky’
The play, which opened on Wednesday, tells the story of an American female astronomer.
HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Tower Players hosted their opening performance of “Silent Sky” by Lauren Gunderson on Wednesday. The play is based on the life and work of American astronomer Henrietta Leavitt.
“It has been exciting to direct a show that honors a little-known pioneer in the world of science,” said Instructor in Theatre Tory Matsos. “Henrietta Leavitt left an inspiring legacy in both astronomy and society, and the cast and crew did a spectacular job bringing her story to life.”

“Silent Sky” tells the story of Leavitt’s groundbreaking work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, when women were largely excluded from science. As Henrietta attempts to measure the heavens, she must also take measure of her life on Earth. The play is written by Lauren Gunderson, one of America’s most produced living playwrights.
“Silent Sky” is the first Tower Players production this season. Additional performances will be Thursday, Oct. 3 – Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2:00 p.m. in Markel Auditorium. Admission is free, and no tickets are required.
