Simpson’s “Horatio Nelson” Mocks Losers Following Naval Battle Triumph

Each year, Hillsdale students armed with pool noodles and cardboard paddles clash in a great naval battle organized by the Cravats and Bluestockings club.

Homecoming at Hillsdale College is an all-out marathon in which every dorm, Greek organization and athletic team compete in a series of competitions that take place throughout the week leading up to the homecoming football game. Perhaps the most celebrated of these events is an annual dance-off called Mock Rock.

Miriam Winter Lecture and Interview

Miriam Winters was a six-year-old child living in Lodz, Poland when World War II began. The Nazis first relocated her family to the infamous Warsaw ghetto, then to the Ozarow ghetto; however, Miriam’s parents managed to sneak her out of the ghetto with help of a sympathetic stranger.

I never wanted to go to college. I had a good job and a great friend group, and the last few years at public high school had burned me out. Learning just wasn’t fun anymore, and I was given weird looks from my teachers if I tried to make connections between English and science classes or between algebra and the structure of an essay. In a few short years I had become completely disenchanted with education.

Chi Omega: Volley-for-a-Wish

The Hillsdale College chapter of Chi Omega hosted its third philanthropic event of the semester, a volleyball tournament to raise funds for its national philanthropy, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, on Sunday April 23, 2014.

Foreign Policy and a Liberal Arts Education

On Monday, February 17th, Mitchell Muncy from the Alexander Hamilton Society gave a lecture entitled “The Inhumanity of American Foreign Policy.” In this lecture, Mr. Muncy critiqued the approach of International Relation programs and the lack of focus on the humanities throughout the nation’s educational institutions.

Simpson Residents Hear from the President

Wednesday, March 19th marked the first time that Dr. Arnn, President of Hillsdale College, has spoken at Simpson Dormitory since the 2000-2001 school year. He was received with applause by a sizeable group of men that night, which was followed by something seldom heard of in any other higher learning institution: A leader taking time to counsel and encourage his students on what it means to be a man in the midst of a society that blurs the lines.
