Victoria Schmidt, ’21, had the opportunity to take several Military Leadership courses with Dr. Peter Jennings. Victoria said these were the most important classes she took at Hillsdale. “Prior to these classes, I was quite naive, and the basis of the military’s appeal was my desire for adrenaline and adventure.”

Kyle Froisland, ’20, had the pleasure of taking “Sound Learning for Leadership,” “Military Leadership,” and “American Military Officership.” These courses were crucial for his personal and professional development prior to accepting his commission. “The education I gained allowed me to better understand the ethos of a military officer and how I could embody this ethos.”

Grant Boyes, ’22, had the opportunity to take several Military Leadership courses that prepared him for officership. Military Leadership laid the cornerstone for him as a young officer, helping him to understand the character and knowledge required to be a platoon commander.

Through the project’s findings, Dr. Church hopes to return to a traditional approach to philosophy.
