HILLSDALE, Mich. — The New Criterion awarded the ninth annual Edmund Burke Award for Service to Culture and Society to Hillsdale College President Larry P. Arnn at its annual gala at the Metropolitan Club in New York City on April 28.

Hillsdale College Honors Master’s Graduate Nathan Neveau with Judith Finn Memorial Award

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College announces its newest Judith Finn Memorial Award winner, Nathan Neveau. Neveau will receive his master’s degree this year in politics from the College’s Van Andel Graduate School of Statesmanship. Neveau’s academic interests include the relationship between Christianity, politics, and education.

Hillsdale College Professor Awarded 2022 Themistocles Award

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus presented the 2022 Themistocles Award to Paul A. Rahe, Hillsdale College professor of history and Charles O. Lee and Louise K. Lee Chair in the Western Heritage, at a ceremony in Athens, Greece, on April 11.

Hillsdale College Senior Receives Barry Foundation Scholarship

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College Senior Nick West became the first Hillsdale student to win the Barry Foundation Scholarship and enroll at the University of Oxford with the scholarship, which grants full funding for its recipients to earn graduate degrees at Oxford. After double majoring in mathematics and physics at Hillsdale College, West said he plans to pursue two master’s degrees, one in applied mathematics.

Hillsdale College Announces New Classical Education Master’s Program

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College announces the launch of its new graduate program in classical education. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission in January 2022, the program will officially begin in August 2022.

Ph.D. Candidates Deliver Dissertations

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Two doctoral students from The Van Andel Graduate School of Statesmanship at Hillsdale College presented their dissertation research in public presentations this month. Sarah Akey and Casey Wheatland had successfully defended their dissertations in front of faculty panels, and both were awarded dissertation honors.

Third Freshman Foundation Lecture Discusses Character and Liberal Learning

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted its third Freshman Foundation Lecture and luncheon at the Searle Center on Feb. 8. David Whalen, associate vice president for curriculum and professor of English, offered a lecture to the freshman class on character. Whalen discussed how character, one of the four pillars of a Hillsdale College education, relates to liberal education through an analysis of Richard Lovelace’s poem “Lucasta, on Going to the Wars.”

Proposed Classical Charter Schools in Tennessee to Partner with Hillsdale College

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College is pleased to announce that, through a partnership with American Classical Education, Inc. (ACE), it will begin to offer its support to classical charter schools in the state of Tennessee. Hillsdale College does not receive any funding from the charter schools with which it works or from ACE. The support it offers is entirely free-of-charge.
