Hillsdale College’s CCA is the sponsor of one of the largest college lecture series in America. Since the series began in 1972, more than 1,300 speakers have participated, including Ronald Reagan, Jeane J. Kirkpatrick, Steve Forbes, Kimberley Strassel, and Stephen Ambrose. In 2019, the Florida legislature passed Florida House Bill 807. The bill requires state test specifications and instructional materials for certain civics courses to be reviewed by the Commissioner of Education in consultation with external education entities. Hillsdale College was among the selected group of education consultants. As such, Hillsdale College offered feedback on the state of Florida’s current civics test specifications. Florida is expected to review the civics standards themselves by the end of 2020.
