Hillsdale College Features the Detroit Historical Society’s Documenting Detroit

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College continues its 2023-2024 Professional Artist Series with an exhibit of documentary photography from the students of prolific Detroit photographer Bill Rauhauser. Students and community members can visit the exhibit, titled “Documenting Detroit” in the Daughtrey Art Gallery from Oct. 27, through Nov. 22.

Hillsdale College Breaks Ground on Phi Sig Pavilion

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College broke ground on the Phi Sig Pavilion on Sept. 23 during Homecoming Weekend. More than 200 alumni, donors, students, and faculty and staff members attended. The new pavilion will be used to host orientation events, performances, classes, and other student activities.

Hillsdale College Hosts Fourth Annual Trunk-or-Treat

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Student Athlete Advisory Committee hosted its fourth annual Trunk-or-Treat on Sunday, Oct. 29. Hillsdale College athletic teams, clubs, dorms, fraternities, and sororities set up booths and provided games for local trick-or-treaters. The event was open to the greater Hillsdale community, with about 500 children attending throughout the afternoon.

Hillsdale College Dedicates Two Dorms

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College dedicated the Marilyn J. Sohn and Ken and Dean Kirn Residences on Oct. 3. The two dorms are home to women on campus, with Kirn completed in 2018 and Sohn in 2023.

Hillsdale College Ranks First in Nearly Every Category in Recent Free Speech Survey

HILLSDALE, Mich. — A recent survey on the state of freedom of speech on college campuses gave Hillsdale College the highest marks among the nation’s institutions of higher education. The survey, conducted by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) and College Pulse, evaluates more than 250 colleges and universities across the country.

Hillsdale College Hoogland Center for Teacher Excellence Hosts Seminar

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s Hoogland Center for Teacher Excellence held a seminar on “The Art of Teaching: Children’s Literature” in Ypsilanti, Michigan, from Sept. 28-29. The event included presentations on teaching through the Socratic method, the formative power of children’s literature, and how to teach poetry.

Hillsdale College Hosts an Evening with Victor Davis Hanson

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s Distinguished Lecture Series hosted an evening with Victor Davis Hanson on Sept. 6 at the Searle Center. Hanson, a distinguished fellow in history at Hillsdale College, gave a lecture titled “California’s Dysfunction and the Future of Our Country.”

Hillsdale College Hosts 24th Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College congratulated new inductees to the Athletic Hall of Fame at its 24th annual Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet on September 22. This year’s inductees included alumni Michael Broome (‘82 football), Kenneth Moorehead (‘71 basketball), Ralph Perriello Sr. (‘64 Football), Troy Salvior (‘90 baseball), and Silvia Siqueira (‘93 tennis).

Christopher F. Rufo Joins Hillsdale College as a Distinguished Fellow

Hillsdale College’s K-12 Education Office Announces its 2023-2024 Master Teachers

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The K-12 Education Office at Hillsdale College has announced its 2023-2024 Master Teachers. This is the fourth cohort of Master Teachers, who are honored for their excellence in the art of teaching. The program is part of Hillsdale’s efforts in K-12 American classical education, which include the Barney Charter School Initiative and the Hoogland Center for Teaching Excellence.
