HILLSDALE, Mich. — Mike Pence, 48th vice president of the United States, presented the second Drummond Lecture of the 2022-2023 academic year in Hillsdale College’s Christ Chapel on March 1. His lecture was titled “The Role of Faith in Public Life.”

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College K-12 Education Office will partner with the Institute for Excellence in Writing to develop a complete structure and style curriculum for grades 3-8. The curriculum will focus on teaching students the principles of effective composition, with an emphasis on brevity, clarity, and creativity.

Hillsdale College Hosts Dominic Green as Spring 2023 Pulliam Fellow
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted Washington Examiner columnist Dominic Green, as the college’s spring 2023 Eugene C. Pulliam distinguished visiting fellow in journalism from Feb. 13 to 22. Green is the author of four books. His most recent book is “The Religious Revolution: The Birth of Modern Spirituality, 1848-1898.”
Hillsdale College Director of Orchestras and Choirs Named National President of the College Orchestra Directors Association
HILLSDALE, Mich. — James Holleman, professor of music and director of orchestras and choirs at Hillsdale College, was selected to serve as the national president of the College Orchestra Directors Association. As president, Holleman will be responsible for leading the organization’s various initiatives and summer leadership seminar along with organizing the 2024 National Conference in February, set to be held at the Belmont University School of Music in Nashville.
Kelly DeVries Speaks at Hillsdale College Center for Military History and Grand Strategy
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s new Center for Military History and Grand Strategy hosted Kelly DeVries to speak on Feb. 14 on “War and Strategy during the Middle Ages.” DeVries is a professor of history at Loyola University Maryland and an honorary historical consultant at the Royal Armouries.

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Five members of the Hillsdale College Shotgun Team competed at the USA Shooting Selection match in Tucson, Arizona, from Feb. 3 to 8. The team earned two gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal:

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College doctoral student Bruno Cortes gave a research presentation on his dissertation titled “The Conquest of Space: American Expansion in the Northwest Territory” on Feb. 16. Cortes made this presentation after successfully defending his dissertation before a faculty panel.
Hillsdale College Music Department Hosts Annual 2023 Student Concerto/Aria Competition
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s Music Department hosted the 2023 annual Student Concerto/Aria Competition on Feb. 5. Students participating in the competition performed solo pieces for a panel of judges in Markel Auditorium, and four students were selected to perform with the Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra.
USA Shooting Earns Nine Medals at ISSF World Cup
HILLSDALE, Mich. — USA Shooting trap and skeet athletes earned nine total medals at the International Shooting Sports Federation World Cup in Rabat, Morocco, from Jan. 11 to 24. USA had a strong showing in trap and skeet events, earning five gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals.
