Hillsdale College will welcome students back to campus for the 2020 fall semester. Classes will resume in person and begin on Wednesday, August 26.

Conner, who held the William P. Harris Chair in Military History at Hillsdale College, received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1983. That same year, he began his teaching career at Hillsdale College. During his 37-year tenure at Hillsdale College, Conner held various administrative positions in addition to his teaching duties, including dean of social sciences, dean of faculty, and department chairman. He also served as advisor to a fraternity. He was voted Hillsdale College Professor of the Year four times and was named one of Princeton Review’s “Best 300 Professors” in 2012.

“Hillsdale College does not accept any government funding, which allows us true financial independence,” said Patrick Flannery, Vice President for Finance and Treasurer of Hillsdale College. “We work to be good stewards of the College’s resources, and we are grateful to the donors and friends that make this independence possible.”

“Each summer, these camps give newcomers and experienced shooters an opportunity to learn more about shooting sports, refine their skills, and connect with others who have similar interests,” said Gena Grant, program coordinator. “We are grateful to our donors and sponsors who make this unique opportunity possible.”

Each of the online symposium’s five sessions addresses a specific aspect of the coronavirus’s impact on America through insight from leading voices.

“This is a blessing, what we have here,” said Larry P. Arnn, Hillsdale College president. “Do you see that it makes us think about the fundamentals of our activity harder? Do you see that it’s clearer by the deprivation, the power of the connections we have? It makes it plain that this is valuable—to be treasured, to be fought for.”

“[David] is a man of intense and elevated practical judgment,” said Larry P. Arnn, Hillsdale College president. “His colleagues say that they don’t know how they carry on without Dave, because he does so much work and doesn’t ask for anything. He’s one of our most valued colleagues.”

The website contains content-rich curriculum from faculty at Hillsdale College and its Barney Charter School Initiative—a network of classical public charter schools. Sorted by grade level and subject matter, the content includes videos, articles, outlines, and podcasts to help parents and teachers navigate remote instruction.

“We could not say goodbye to our graduating seniors without celebrating their accomplishments,” said Christopher VanOrman, Hillsdale College provost. “We look forward to having them return to us for a three-day-long celebration.”
